CAIRO, Neb. – The McCook Community College golf team finished in a seventh-place tie Tuesday in the final round of the 2006 Nebraska Intercollegiate tournament at the Centura Hills Golf Club.
With a field that included five four-year schools and three community colleges, Doane University claimed the title with a 19-over par score of 595. Southeast Community College was second with a 617 and Midland University was third with a 620.
MCC tied York University for seventh among the seven teams with scores of 652. The Indians posted a 330 Monday, which was four strokes out of fifth place but came back shooting a 322 Tuesday.
“It seemed like nothing could go our way this week, which is frustrating with the momentum we had coming in,” said MCC Coach Grant Case. “Penalty shots and big numbers plagued everyone’s scorecards making scoring very difficult.”
Freshman Freddie Wilson, (Basingstoke, England) led the Indians with a team-low 153, good for a tie in eighth place, shooting nine-over par for the tournament. He posted rounds of 77 and 76.
“I’m happy for Freddie continuing his good play this fall semester, placing in the top 10 again,” said Case.
Louis Yin (sophomore, Tainan, Taiwan) had rounds of 80 and 83 to finish at 163.
Sophomore Jeb Kastens (Atwood, Kan.), freshman Trenton Raile (McCook) and William Clayton (freshman, West Malling, England) finished in a tie with scores of 171. Kastens had rounds of 84 and 87. Raile came back from a 90 Monday to post an 81 Tuesday. Clayton shot rounds of 89 and 82.
The Indians will wrap up the fall portion of their schedule Oct. 15 and 16 at Spreading Antlers Golf Course in Lamar, Colo.
