Robinson Leads Eight Husker All-Big Ten Selections
Ty Robinson headlines a group of eight Huskers selected to the All-Big Ten teams announced Tuesday.
Robinson was chosen as a third-team selection by both the coaches and media, the only Husker among the top three teams. A 6-foot-6, 310-pound senior, Robinson posted career highs in total tackles (33), TFLs (11) and sacks (six), as he led NU in both tackles for loss, sacks and quarterback hurries (six). He had at least one tackle for loss in eight of the Huskers’ 12 contests, anchoring a defense that ranks in the top 20 nationally in total defense (19th), scoring defense (20th) and rushing defense (14th). It is his second All-Big Ten selection, as he was an honorable mention pick in 2023.
Four other Blackshirts earned honorable-mention accolades, including defensive lineman Nash Hutmacher (coaches and media), linebacker John Bullock (coaches and media), and defensive backs Malcolm Hartzog Jr. (coaches and media) and Deshon Singleton (media). It is the second straight year Hutmacher was an honorable mention pick by the coaches and media and the first honor for Bullock, Hartzog and Singleton.
Hutmacher finished the season with 24 tackles, along with four tackles for loss and two sacks from his interior lineman position. The 6-foot-4, 310-pounder had multiple tackles in six of NU’s nine Big Ten games, including four tackles against Illinois.
Bullock finished the regular season with 65 tackles to rank third on the team, while chipping in nine tackles for loss, three sacks and six pass breakups. The 6-foot, 230-pound linebacker tied for the team lead in pass breakups with five and ranked second in both tackles for loss and sacks. He had a season-high nine tackles against both Northern Iowa and Illinois and had three games with multiple TFLs in 2024.
Hartzog Jr. played across the secondary for the Huskers, finishing with 43 tackles, a team-high four interceptions and four pass breakups. He totaled a season-high six tackles at USC, one of four games with at least five tackles. He had five tackles, including a pair of tackles for loss, at Iowa in the regular-season finale.
Singleton bounced back from a season-ending injury in 2023 to record 67 tackles, including a team-best 43 unassisted stops. He also had an interception, a fumble recovery and two pass breakups. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound safety had a season-high 10 tackles at Ohio State, one of seven games with at least six tackles, and clinched NU’s win over Wisconsin with his first interception of the season.
On the offensive side, seniors Bryce Benhart (coaches) and Ben Scott (media) were tabbed as honorable-mention picks, as both were selected for the second straight year. Benhart started every game at right tackle and finished his career as Nebraska’s school record holder games played (59) and starts (53). Scott started every game at center in 2024 and started 23 of 24 games for the Big Red over the last two seasons. The pair provided stability on the offensive line, as Dylan Raiola completed 65.6 percent of his passes, while NU’s top rusher and three of the top four receivers were in their first year at Nebraska.
Brian Buschini was an honorable-mention All-Big Ten pick by the coaches and media, as he averaged 44.7 yards per punt, which was the eighth-highest single-season average in school history. He placed 16 of his 44 punts inside the opponent 20-yard line, including eight inside the 10-yard line. He was Big Ten Specialist of the Week following his performance against Rutgers when he averaged 50.2 yards per punt, including a pair inside the Rutgers’ 20-yard line.
Javin Wright was Nebraska’s final honoree, as he was the Huskers’ nominee for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. Wright overcame health issues to return to the field, totaling 26 tackles on the season, including five tackles in the win over Wisconsin. Off the field, he is a three-time Tom Osborne Citizenship Team honoree.
