Trinidad State Volleyball upends MCC at home
The McCook Community College volleyball dropped a key Region IX match Saturday at home to Trinidad State. The Trojans downed the Lady Indians 18-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-19.
“I thought we started strong in the first set and then we just didn’t carry over with confidence the next three sets,” said MCC Coach Hayley Kobza. “Offensively, we just didn’t show up after the first set and we didn’t’ execute like we wanted to do.”
Sophomore Romina Martinez Castro (Cochabamba, Bolivia) led MCC on the attack with seven kills and added two assist blocks, two solo blocks, one ace and 11 digs. Caylin Barnett (sophomore, McCook) had five digs, three assist blocks, one ace and nine digs. Freshman Charlee Russick (Berthoud, Colo.) had nine digs, two kills and one solo block.
Sophomore Emerie Rios (Sterling, Colo.) had one kill and one assist block. Freshman Ailynn Wright (Sterling, Colo.) had a pair of service aces and one kill.
Sophomore Rowan Tribelhorn (Yuma, Colo.) had five kills in the middle with six assist blocks. Ella Verts (freshman, Marshall, Mo.) had five kills and one assist block
Cibeles Bothwell (sophomore, Spring, Texas) led the Lady Indians with 18 digs and had one ace and one assist. Freshman Megan Walker (Haxtun, Colo.) was credited with 22 assists, four digs, one kill and one assist block. Freshman Mia Cauffman (Hershey) had two digs.
The Trojans improve to 20-6 on the season and 3-2 in the region.
“They really outworked us and wanted it more, which is really hard – especially on our home court, but we have to move on from here,” said Kobza.
MCC falls to 17-8 and 2-3 in the region.
The Lady Indians remain at home Tuesday for a chance to clinch the Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference title against Southeast Community College. MCC, 4-0 in the NCCAC takes on the Bobcats, 0-5 in NCCAC and 6-20 overall. First serve is set for 6 p.m. in the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center.
